Housing Board of Appeals

Purpose	The board hears and acts upon appeals brought forth by property owners or responsible parties for a property that has received orders defining a violation of the Housing Maintenance Code. The property representative and the inspector who issued the orders present relevant facts to the board. These facts, along with matters ‘useful to a reasoned balancing between the public objectives…and the probable economic and social consequences to all persons … concerned’ are weighed prior to the final decision of the board. All decisions of the board are final.

Number of Members	Total of 15 members, 3 are non-voting members. 8 Public Members, 1 Alternative, Supervisor of Housing Inspection Services (non-voting), Rep from the City Attorney’s office (non-voting), Designee of the Director of MCDA (non-voting), Designee of Director of Inspections, Designee of Chief of Fire Prevention, Designee of Commissioner of Health.
Appointment Process	Applications submitted to department. Department brings before Council for approval., using the City’s open appointment process
Term of Appointment	2 years
Compensation	$50 per meeting – parking validation for each meeting
Residency Requirement	Yes - The 8 public members and 1 alternate must be residents of Minneapolis
