As required by the City Charter, the Board of Estimate & Taxation holds public hearings to obtain citizen input relating to setting the maximum tax levies for certain tax funds in the City.

The Board consists of seven members: the Mayor or designate, the City Council President, the chairman of the Ways and Means/Budget Committee, a commissioner of the Park and Recreation Board, a trustee of the Library Board and two members elected city-wide for four-year terms.
The support staff for this Board consists of an executive secretary to the Board.
