House & Garage Address Numbers
Solid Waste & Recycling crews need house and/or garage address numbers. Address numbers are important to ensure that:
- You can get the correct information regarding your garbage and recycling pickup.
- Crews can pick up your large items (i.e. stove, couch, etc.) on your recycling week.
- Solid Waste & Recycling can provide you the best customer service.
Please ensure that your address number is clearly visible.
Save money - Post your house or garage number yourself
If it is reported that your house or garage numbers are not posted, our office will send you a letter requesting that number be placed by a given date. If numbers are not posted, then Solid Waste & Recycling will post them for you and bill you $18.00 on your next utility bill.
What type of numbers should I put up?
City ordinance requires each residence with a public alley to have house numbers posted that are easily read from the alley. The ordinance specifies that the house numbers be at least two inches in height and of a contrasting color from the structure. House numbers can be purchased at hardware, building material and discount stores, starting at approximately 50 cents a number.
What else does my house number do?
House and garage address numbers are an invaluable aid in providing service to your home. City emergency personnel; solid waste and recycling crews; and electrical, cable and phone utility employees rely on visible house numbers to service your property.
I don't have an alley; my garbage is picked up at the curb, in front of my house!
Then post your address numbers on the front of your home.
I don't have a garage!
Then post your address numbers on the back of your home.
I received a letter, but already have them posted!
Make sure they are visible from the street or alley. Trim shrubs or tree branches, if necessary. Then call Minneapolis Solid Waste & Recycling at (612) 673-2917.
